HRH Mohammed Bin Salman Bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Vice President of the Council of Ministers, and Chairman of the Royal Commission for Riyadh City, ordered development of the main and ring roads in Riyadh. Guided by the Saudi Vison 2020, the program aims to upgrade the metropolitan transportation network and transform Riyadh into a leading regional hub for sustainable transportation services and logistics.
Under the program, 400 kilometers of the Riyadh’s road network will be developed and upgraded through a package of projects that include:
Ring Roads
- Develop the First Ring Road and upgrade its capacity (80 Kms)
- Complete the Second Ring Road (70 Kms)
Main Road Axes
- Develop King Fahd Road and upgrade its capacity (30 kms)
- Upgrade two sections of King Abdulaziz Road – from King Salman Road to the Northern Ring Road and from Abu Dhabi Square to the Southern Ring Road (27 Kms)
- Upgrade a section of Imam Saud Bin Faisal Road from King Khalid Road to its junction with the Second Eastern Ring Road (23 Kms)
- Upgrade Prince Turki Bin Abdulaziz I Road and its southern extension up to its junction with the Second Southern Ring Road (45 Kms)
- Develop the southern extension of Abu Bakr Al-Siddiq Road (17 Kms)
- Upgrade two sections of Othman Bin Affan Road from King Salman Road to Al-Urouba Road, and from Makkah Al-Mukarramah Road to the Southern Ring Road (16 Kms)

The program will also:
- Link different parts of the city via a network of highways and arterial roads
- Address the current and future transportation needs
- Improve average speed of traffic
- Align urban development plans to the city’s vision and strategy
