Noor Riyadh 2024 continues to shine on the global stage, securing two new Guinness World Records titles for the fourth year in a row. These latest accolades further cement the festival’s reputation as a groundbreaking celebration of light and art.
During a special ceremony at the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, the festival was honored with two prestigious titles. The first went to “Supreme Power,” an artwork by internationally acclaimed artist Chris Levine, which earned the record for the “Longest Distance Covered by a Laser Beam in a Laser Show.”
This extraordinary piece featured a powerful 1-kilowatt laser beam projected from the iconic Faisaliah Tower, standing at a height of 267 meters. The beam extended across Riyadh in four directions, carrying a Morse code message of “Salam”—the Arabic word for peace—as a symbol of hope and positive transformation.
The second record was awarded to “The Fifth Pyramid,” an innovative installation by Saudi artist Rashid Al Shashai, recognized as the “Largest Illuminated Pyramid Artwork Made from Recyclable Materials.”
Towering at 28 meters, the structure was constructed using petrochemical shipping pallets and sustainable materials. Its illuminated fuchsia passageway represents Riyadh’s transformative journey and commitment to sustainability and innovation.
Engineer Khalid Al-Hazzani, Executive Director of the Riyadh Art Program, celebrated the achievements, noting: “Securing these Guinness World Records titles underscores Noor Riyadh’s global significance as a platform for creativity and art. These accomplishments reflect the power of art to inspire change and reinforce cultural identity. Through the language of light, Noor Riyadh continues to connect and inspire people from all walks of life.”
Engineer Nouf Al-Munif, Director of Noor Riyadh, added: “This year’s festival has reached unparalleled heights of creativity, as evidenced by these two remarkable Guinness titles. Noor Riyadh stands as the world’s largest light art festival, showcasing the exceptional talent, dedication, and vision of the artists, curators, and organizers. It solidifies Riyadh’s position as a leading cultural capital on the global stage.”
The 2024 edition of Noor Riyadh is themed “Light Years Apart” and is curated by Dr. Effat Abdullah Fadaaq and Dr. Alfredo Cramerotti. The festival’s dazzling artworks and community engagement activities span three major venues: the King Abdulaziz Historical Center, JAX District, and Wadi Hanifa.
This year’s festival features over 60 awe-inspiring works by artists from 18 countries, transforming Riyadh into a radiant, interactive art gallery that has captivated millions of visitors.
With these new records, Noor Riyadh has now achieved a total of 16 Guinness World Records, building on the 14 titles earned in previous years.
