On January 18, 2017, HRH Prince Faisal Bin Bandar, Chairman of High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh and Chairman of Supervisory Committee for King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project (Metro & Busses) visited Riyadh Metro Project, in the presence of HE Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, Engineer Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, HE Minister of Transport Sulaiman Al-Hamdan, HE Minister of Civil Service, Khalid bin Abdullah Al-Araj, and the project’s Preparatory Committee and Follow-up Committee members.
In a statement to the press, HRH said that completion of the deep tunnels of Riyadh Metro Project represents a prominent achievement that we present as a gift to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques, King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, HRH Crown Prince, HRH Deputy Crown Prince, and residents of Riyadh.
HRH Prince Faisal bin Bandar also noted that 48% of Riyadh Metro Project is now done, and advanced his thanks to the staff of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh, led by HE Engr. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, President of Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), for their efforts in the project.
Inspection visit to the Blue Line’s tunnel
HRH Prince Faisal visited the Blue Line (Al-Olaya-Al-Batha axis) and went into the tunnel at 35 meters deep and was further briefed on the latest developments of the 19400-m2 National Museum station, located at crossroads of the King Faisal Road and King Saud Road. The station’s design mixes modernity and authenticity.
HRH Prince Faisal visited the tunnel in a vehicle that stopped at the Batha station, 27 meters underground where he was again briefed on the work progress. He was also briefed on the developments and working techniques, as well as on the security and safety arrangements of the project.
The project’s tunneling work complete
At the end of the tunnel, HRH Chairman of the High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh and the visitors reached the location of Qasr Al-Hukm Metro Station, where he patronized ADA’s celebration to mark completion of the project’s tunneling works within 21 months and with a total length of 34 km.

Later, HRH watched a brief film on works of the 32000-m2 Qasr Al-Hukm Station, which will be a prominent landmark of Riyadh.
Riyadh Public Transport Project and Saudi Vision 2030
King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project will contribute to the achievement of Saudi Vision 2030 goals through promotion of metropolitan economic infrastructure, and qualifying the capital to be one of three Saudi cities planned to be ranked among the world’s top 100 cities, which is also a goal of “Saudi Vision 2030”.
