Climate change is a growing threat to the whole world, which witnesses abnormal climate phenomena such as the unprecedented rise in temperatures, rainfall and storms. In this context, the High Committee for Environment Protection in Riyadh adopted the Execution Plan for Environment Protection in Riyadh City, which comprises six main axes:
The axis of “climate change” included three programs, carried out in cooperation with public and private agencies, to deal with the impacts of climate change as follows:
Study of greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions:
The study aims at developing a comprehensive plan to manage these emissions, and establish a system for monitoring their sources and controlling their effects, in addition to conducting carbon impact assessment to help reduce temperature in the city.
Study of abnormal climatic conditions:
This program seeks to conduct a comprehensive study on the current and future abnormal climatic conditions including temperature, wind and rain in order to develop a schedule for assessment of the improvements achieved.
Study of the carbon emissions’ increase in the city of Riyadh:
This program seeks to rationalize energy consumption, and to achieve optimal utilization of energy resources, including all types of fuel and electricity through conducting a study on the rise of carbon emissions in Riyadh, application of the thermal insulation program, etc.
