On 19 February, 2018, HRH Prince Faisal Bin Bandar, Chairman of High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh and Chairman of Supervisory Committee for King Abdulaziz Public Transport Project, chaired the 13th meeting of the Committee in the presence of HE Abdullatif bin Abdulmalik Al Shaikh, Minister of Municipal and Rural Affairs, HE Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al-Jadaan, Minister of Finance, and HE Nabil bin Mohammed Al-Amoudi, Minister of Transport.
In a statement to the press, HRH said, “Riyadh Metro project is 68% complete and is progressing according to plan”.
”The trial run of several routes is expected by the end of 2018,” HRH added.
Project works continue in 250 locations
According to HE Engr. Ibrahim Al-Sultan, member of the High Commission for Development of Arriyadh and President of Arriyadh Development Authority (ADA), the meeting was briefed on the overall progress of works of Riyadh Metro Project currently underway in 250 locations across the city. Construction works of the project’s 85 stations and 7 boarding and maintenance centers progress as planned. Currently, the project’s bridges are 98% complete, while its 36-kilometer tunnels are fully finished. The railway surface tracks are 68% installed, and 90% of the public service networks intersecting with the project’s lines were diverted.
Preparations for the trial run phase
Meanwhile, the High commission’s preparations continue for the project’s trial run phase. The meeting also approved the operation and maintenance tenders of the bus stations and facilities, as well as the Riyadh-based public transport operation and control center. The tenders are in three groups that cover bus stations and facilities in southern, central and northern Riyadh.
