The Royal Commission for Riyadh City (RCRC) organized a preparatory workshop for the 4th session of Riyadh Urban Observatory (RUO), attended by 85 participants representing 56 government agencies, private entities, and civil society organizations.
On August 11,2021, the Saudi Cabinet approved a partnership agreement regarding establishment and operation of the Riyadh Local Data Hub. The workshop’s focus was to introduce the Riyadh Local Data Hub, which will be a key enabler in supporting RCRC efforts to build on the city’s position as the regional economic powerhouse and make it one of the world’s top cities, and one of the most prominent in quality of life, tourism, and services by 2030.
Riyadh was one of eight cities selected by the World Council of Cities Data (WCCD) to be the “local 2030 data hubs”, which culminates the city’s achievements in this field especially winning the WCCD ISO 37120 golden certification.
The workshop made a set of recommendations on the future coordination mechanisms for the RUO and its 4th session. It also drafted an action plan for the Riyadh Local Data Hub, which will be reviewed and approved in accordance with the RUO’s regulations.
The RUO is a key tool that leverages all urban planning efforts to achieve a comprehensive vision of the de facto situation in the city and its future trends and target them carefully to effectively achieve the sustainable urban development.
